Create a LOOM: 1. On the shorter side of the paper, measure 2 ½ inches from the edge and draw a straight line 2. Write your name and class name above the line 3. Fold the paper in half (hamburger style) 4. Draw 7-9 lines from the “name line” to the folded edge. Make them slightly wavy. 5. Cut the wavy lines--BE SURE TO STOP AT THE NAME LINE (do NOT cut to the edge of the paper) 6. Open your painting Create a Weaving: 1. Cut ONE strip across the paper on the shorter side. You should cut with a slight wave. 2. Weave the strip (under-over-under-over) across your loom. 3. Repeat until the loom is full. Be sure each strip fits against the last strip like a puzzle piece. 3-D Weaving 1. Cut a thin strip with leftover paper. 2. "Stitch" with the strip creating a 3-D effect. Be sure to twist and turn the strips to make loops. Do not pull them through flat. (see demonstration) | Unit Objective: Students will create a textured paper weaving using painted paper.
